When it comes to choosing a reliable and versatile electric cargo bike, the options seem endless. In this blog post, we will compare two of the newest models in the market - the Velotric Packer 1 and the Aventon Abound. Join us as we delve into their features and specifications to help you make an informed decision.
Overview
The Velotric Packer 1 and Aventon Abound share many similarities such as the 750W motor and being a Class 2 e-bike with both throttle and pedal electric assist.
There are many advantages that the Velotric Packer 1 has though, including
Features |
Benefits |
More pedal assist levels |
Finer control of the speed you want to operate in |
Top Speed Unlock possible |
Ability to go faster when needed |
More range |
Ability to go farther from a single charge |

The primary advantage the Aventon Abound has it that it uses a torque sensor. Generally torque sensors have a more ‘natural’ riding experience (see our Velotric T1 and Velotric T1 ST series) as it responds to the actual pressure applied on pedals and can be more dynamic. However, cadence sensors are just as reliable and tend to deliver a more consistent level of power. Due to Velotric Packer 1’s presumed primary use of carrying cargo and passengers, as well as the frequent use of the thumb throttle for cruising, the Velotric Packer 1 opts for a cadence sensor for a reliable performance and to save costs for a buyer.
We will go more into detail into the specific areas of the bike, but overall, both bikes offer quite a similar package and are great cargo e-bikes, but the Velotric Packer 1 comes at $400 less.

Electrical
The electrical drive system is what powers an electric bike. A majority of e-bike manufacturers including Rad Power Bikes and Aventon typically source components from different manufacturers such as BAFANG motors, which saves costs on the R&D of creating a system from scratch, but sacrifices the efficiency of the system, typically resulting in trade-offs such as less range or long-term reliability.
Velotric is one of the few e-bike manufacturers who have actually developed their own proprietary drive system, which typically results in higher range or other benefits. In the Velotric Packer 1’s case, it’s driven by the Velopower H50 drive system. In addition to the slightly longer range, Velotric Packer 1 also works with Apple Find My™, which allows iOS device users to add their e-bike to their Find My app and track where their Velotric Packer 1 is at any time.

Mechanics
The mechanical components of any e-bike is what ensures that it will actually ride comfortably and safely. In this regard, the Velotric Packer 1 has spared no expense to create a superior e-bike. Particularly the Velotric Packer 1 features a 4-piston hydraulic disc brake which offers double the stopping power of typical 2-piston brakes, which is important given a cargo e-bike’s heavier loads and higher potential in carrying passengers. The additional 30mm of travel of the hydraulic front suspension also means a smoother and more comfortable ride for both rider and passengers, and less bumps for fragile cargo.
