Gear up and get ready to pedal precisely how you like with Velotric's latest update. It’s not just smart cycling; it’s cycling that gets you.
Understanding Torque vs. Cadence Sensors
Torque and cadence sensors each offer a distinct riding experience tailored to your needs. But what exactly are they?
-
Torque Sensors: These sensors measure how hard you're pedaling and instantly adjust the motor's output to match your effort. What does this mean for you? A ride that syncs smoothly with your movements, providing a natural, intuitive experience that mimics traditional cycling. It's ideal for those who enjoy feeling engaged with their ride, offering a sense of control and a rewarding workout.
-
Cadence Sensors: On the other hand, cadence sensors detect the speed at which you're pedaling and provide a consistent motor assist based on your pedaling speed. This translates to a more effortless ride where the bike does much of the work, allowing you to maintain a steady pace with less physical exertion. Perfect for casual rides or commuters who prefer a relaxed journey without the sweat.
From Inspiration to Innovation
Our journey to integrate both sensors into one seamless system started with you—our riders. Some of you, like the spirited weekend mountain bikers, crave the raw, responsive feel of torque sensors. Others, such as the urban commuters and those with physical limitations, need the steady hand of cadence sensors. This led to a breakthrough idea: why not offer both?
As we developed SensorSwap, we fine-tuned the hardware and software to ensure seamless sensor transitions, enhancing user comfort and system responsiveness. By incorporating feedback from cyclists across various backgrounds during our testing phases, we continuously refined the system. This iterative process, supported by OTA (Over-The-Air) technology, enables users to effortlessly update their bikes at home, keeping their rides up-to-date with the latest advancements without needing new hardware.
How Velotric's SensorSwap Matches Your Lifestyle and Riding Preferences
Wondering what this small but mighty update looks like in practice? Picture starting your day with a smooth, laid-back commute thanks to the cadence sensor. Then, as adventure calls on the weekend, switch to the torque sensor for a more robust, engaging pedal. It’s the same bike, but one that keeps up with your dynamic lifestyle with just a tap.
For daily commuters and leisure cyclists, the cadence sensor mode makes weekday commutes a breeze, allowing you to glide through city streets without breaking a sweat. This is perfect for office workers who prefer a relaxed ride to maintain a professional appearance upon arrival. When the weekend arrives, switching to the torque sensor injects some vigor in the ride, perfect for a more engaging, traditional cycling experience.
Cycling enthusiasts will find the SensorSwap particularly advantageous. Opt for the cadence sensor on those endless flat stretches, saving your energy to enjoy the ride's view and vibe. When challenged by a rugged path, the torque sensor offers a grip-and-rip style that enhances your interaction with every turn and trail.
And for families with a home full of riders, our SensorSwap is a true family plan. It scales from the thrill-seeking teenager who wants all the feels of the ride, to the leisure-loving grandparent who prefers a more relaxed jaunt around the park. This one-bike-fits-all approach means everyone in the household can enjoy the same great bike, customized to their own riding style and needs.
Tips for Optimizing Use:
-
Select the Right Mode: Consider the terrain and the type of ride ahead. Use the cadence sensor for flat, smooth surfaces and the torque sensor for hilly or rough terrains.
-
Integrate the Features into Your Routine: Regularly switch between modes to align with your fitness goals or varying daily needs. This not only enhances your riding experience but also maximizes the use of your Velotric bike.
Activating the SensorSwap Feature
And now the moment you've been waiting for - how do you get our hands (and bikes) on this new feature?
Follow this route of straightforward steps to update your Velotric e-bike with our latest firmware, shifting seamlessly between torque and cadence sensors.
-
Update Your App:
-
Begin by updating your Velotric app to the latest version available for iOS (4.3.0) or Android (4.3.1). This is crucial as the new SensorSwap function is integrated within the app’s latest iteration.
-
Upgrade Your Bike's Firmware:
-
To activate the SensorSwap capability, head to ‘Bike Settings’ in your app and select ‘Firmware Update.’ Here, update the firmware for both the display and the controller to the latest versions. This step ensures that your bike’s hardware is ready to seamlessly switch between sensor modes.
-
Restart Your Bike and App:
-
After the updates, turn off your bike and completely close the Velotric app. This helps in resetting the system and properly initializing the new features.
-
Power your bike back on and reopen the Velotric app. This reconnection allows the updated firmware and the app to sync effectively.
-
Enable SensorSwap
-
Navigate back to ‘Bike Settings’ in your app. You should now see an option to toggle between torque and cadence sensors. This new setting lets you customize your ride according to your personal preference and riding conditions.
Important Note:
-
Remember, the SensorSwap managed exclusively through the Velotric app. Updating the app alone won’t activate the feature on your bike until the firmware has also been updated. Make sure both the app and firmware are upgraded to ensure full functionality.

Love discover with cadance senor.
Hey guys, This update is soooo cool !!!
THANK YOU!
I updated the firmware the other day-very smooth process- and used torque sensor outbound on my ride and cadence on my return when my energy level had fallen and a head wind was blowing hard. The ability to toggle between both sensors is a huge Velotric advantage. Really makes an already excellent ebike way more versatile. Have ridden thousands of miles on a previous cadence sensor ebike and having this dual feature in my Discover 2 is fabulous! Torque sensor for most riding, cadence when I’m tired.
